Description

While Henry was in England, his brother Thomas, Duke of Clarence, led the English forces in France. On 22 March 1421 Thomas led the English to a disastrous defeat at the Battle of Baugé against a Franco-Scottish army.

On 10 June, Henry sailed back to France. He commenced an energetic campaign, but after a short illness he died on the 31 August 1422. Preparations were made for the conveyance of the body to England. Wherever the corpse rested Masses were sung, and on its arrival at Dartford it was received at the church by the Bishop of Exeter, with great pomp and solemnity.
