Mistletoe and Lime (the ladies of Wilmington Common)

In January 2023 I completed this painting. It was intended for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition – unfortunately, it didn’t get selected from the 13,000+ applicants.

Mistletoe and Lime is my painting of three of the lime trees (during winter) that surround the common in Wilmington, Kent. Lime trees are one of the most common hosts for mistletoe in the UK. Mistletoe berries are often spread by birds from one tree to another. This is how the large, rounded clumps of mistletoe form in tree branches.
